If you never heard about them this is a brief story.

Center was founded by Vasily Shumov in Moscow, Russia. First recordings in 1982 brought a wide recognition to the band among Soviet music underground. Center is eclectic, experimental, and very artistic. Center's music include many different and sometimes hard to identify styles. Since early 80's Center made many albums and performances in Europe and America. First international release by Center was in 1989 by Barclay (Polygram), France. This album was picked as an album of the month by influential French magazine "Actuel". Since 1982 Center recorded more than 25 albums, composed music for movies, TV shows, and animation. Information about Vasily Shumov and Center can be found in numerous publications and books. Two books in Russian are available as free download on this site.

In the 90's Vasily Shumov moved from Moscow to Los Angeles where he continued his music and art works. In 1998 Vasily graduated from California Institute of the Arts with MFA in New Media, Music and Theater. Please visit Vasily Shumov's web art project called "OFFICE OF ANY". There you will find many of his short films and VR collages.

Center's latest album "MOLODOINAMOLODOI" (YOUNGONYOUNG) was released in February 2003 and available as a free download on this page.

Center's last 4 albums were created completely using web and FTP. Many participants never met and just exchanged audio files via FTP. Everybody who are participated in recordings of new albums and also helping our site with altruistic actions called CENTROBORATORS. Centroborators are located in different places and communicate with each other mostly through the web.

Right now Center is going back to play live. This is electronic music show with video projection. Show based on material from the last 4 albums and few well known Center's compositions. Next gigs will be in the Contour Club, Seattle, WA, 9PM on March 29.
